Hmmm. Tricky one this. Curran and Fletcher are no-brainers for 5 and 6, I'd say. Robertson is similar for the wicketkeeper slot. Penney might have to be at #3. Real lack of options for openers. Ray Gripper's a decent call, mind.

How does Dudleston count? I can see he played for Rhodesia, but would he meet proper eligibility requirements if this was an international game?

I guess Clint Heron might be an option for opener. At least he was born in Zimbabwe.

I'm guessing guys that played for South Africa (in particular Colin Bland) don't count?

Seems so. It's like Welshman who play for England because they fall under the same cricket board but feels more extreme as we haven't had any direct links as countries besides that.

You imagine; Tony Pithey, Colin Bland, Jackie du Preez, Percy Mansell, Goofy Lawrence & Joe Partridge would walk into the top teams.

Hmmm..... Good point on Dudleston. Bentley is a good option but played for SA in Rebel matches. Jack Heron?? Dudes stats are frankly poor, but he has some pretty high rep.

Edit: I think I will go with Bentley. If we are writing off Dudleston since he won't qualify for Zimbabwe, then so won't Bentley for SA; and he never even played in any official international matches.

Just found Stuart Robertson used to open for Rhodesia pretty regularly.

Hmmm. I'd want to see how he fared at the various positions in the batting order. I see that he also batted at #3 pretty frequently.

I have to say, there's something a bit more 'legit' about selecting Robertson and Gripper to open and then players like Curran and Fletcher in the middle order ahead of Byrom.

Couldn't find any detailed stats by position on Cricketarchive, but it seems Robertson batted top 3 mostly for Rhodesia and was decently successful.
