All time worst Australian one day team

This team wouldn't disgrace themselves against some other countries all time best teams IMO.

Partly because there are some names in there that shouldn't be.

But I don't see the Slaters and Ritchies doing that much against the Frasers, Caddicks, Goughs, Mullallys and Ealhams TBH. Not at all.

I am serious. The team bats down to number 9.

Bruce Reid and Mick Lewis would be an ok opening bowling combo.

10 overs (min) combined from Law, Ritchie and Blewett could end pretty badly though.

Brett Dorey was worse than Reid but only played 4 games. I wanted to reward players who lost many games for Australia due to their mediocrity.

I didn't choose Reid for his batting. It was his bowling, average 35, and his fielding that won him a place.

Great thread! - Yes, Bruce was not the greatest asset for a one day team but he did have some good moments.

That game against NZ in December 1990 at Hobart where he missed every ball of the last over - he was the best bowler that day taking 1 for 25 off 10 overs.

2 of those balls he missed were down the legside - they weren't as strict on wides even as recent as 1990 as they are now.

In the 1987 World Cup Final he took the match-winning catch on the boundary to dismiss a rampaging Phil DeFreitas and stop England snatching the win.

Here's a stab at the dregs England can muster. I've tried not to make it too recently-biased, but by 'eck, we haven't half had some crap of late...

TE Jesty
MP Maynard
RC Irani
IJ Gould
A McGrath
JWM Dalrymple
*R Clarke
+BN French
DJ Capel

RJ Kirtley

Attached is a spreadsheet with the best of the worst split by batting and bowling - so long as they have the ten-game cut off. Big shout out to the guys who appear on both lists.

10. Mick Lewis - Makes the team despite the 10 game rule because he was sooooo pathetic. Owned the worst figures in the history of the game with 0/113 of 10 against the chokers. Also owns a 1/77 off 9. His response after the butt rape "Just one of those days. Could have happened to anyone." No it could only happen to you.
Worst player to ever play ODIs (Y)

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I'd say Andrew Penn would have something to say about that. He just didn't go for over 100 in a freak game...

Lewis managed more wickets than Penn. The fact is, Lewis had moderate success at ODI level until that game. Players like Penn weren't good enough to get more than 5 games. Therefore Lewis>>>Penn, Dorey et al.

And yes I have a headache now because of all of the wall bashing.

Lewis is not the worst player to have ever played ODI's. If he is, because of conceding 100, that automatically makes Murali the second worst. No, Lewis was dire, pretty substandard and generally crap. But the worst? Hardly.

Lance Hamilton, James Marshall, Warren Wisneski, Carl Bulfin, Matthew Bell, Robert Kennedy were all worse players IMO, and thats just from our side of the pond.

Yeah, the same sort of people who say Lewis is the worst are the same sort of people who say Murali is a chucker without having an argument to back it up.

They're also the kind of people who goto Bay 13 and drive in 4WD's.

Shhhh remember how we're a good one day team? Just shove those guys under the rug for now...

EDIT: I miss Lance Hamilton. Central need a fast bowler.
