The South Africa Barnes faces won 4 matches vs England in 1906 (won the series 3-1), 3 matches vs England in 1910 and also won a match vs Australia in 1911. They were definitely weaker than ENG, but Calling them a minnow is definitely a stretch.

Bumrah doesn't have a single 10W haul is his career. Does that make him any less great?
Barnes had 3 8W hauls vs Australia.

It still doesn't explains why he only got 1 10w haul against aus.

And about Barnes having 3 8w hauls vs aus... Bumrah did that is this series itself

If Bumrah ends up with no 10W haul, will you rate him any lower?

10W haul is not some metric by which we judge players. Bumrah got 2 9W hauls in this series. If he got one more wicket in each match, would it make much difference?

Asking why Barnes has only 1 10W haul doesn't mean anything. If he got 2 wickets in each of the 3 matches, would it make any difference? Barnes has 12 5'fers in 20 matches vs Australia, which is great. And did light-years better than what other's did vs Australia.

My point is not to compare Bumrah (or anybody) with Barnes, just brought him up as an example.

?? When Barnes retired he was the leading wicket taker in the world.189 wickets, the second I think was just around 100 mark. Need to hurry atm but Barnes played from 1901-14, his last match came at over 40 Years of age. SA were no minnows they won series against England whenever Barnes didn’t play in SA and they also beat Australia in Australia for a match. And all he did it at over 7 Wkt a match..
His total number of wickets would be later surpassed near 20 Years later by Grimmett. Tbh if he wasn’t such a arrogant personality that record would probably be there for some more decades.
