Jamieson's really not in the picture IMO. If you want someone with an amazing peak and serviceable otherwise, then Henry and Bond have done more tbh.

Jamieson is competing with Wagner for a change bowler spot though (not a new ball spot).

If Wagner had been picked in the 1st team, then Jamieson would've made the 2nd XI.

30 matches at an average of 26 - B Taylor

Southee has periods of his career where he did that or better over 60+ matches
Southee had 30 matches where he was poor, bookending his career essentially.

He had 77 tests where he was very, very good. That's twice or three times as long as some of the other names thrown about. It should count for something.

Also had periods when he did MUCH worse plus Taylor can bat. Since Ajaz, Wagner, and Bond are all tailenders we need someone at 8 who can bat. Taylor is a better version of Dion Nash. Hopefully Smith can be a similar player.

I think there's a danger PEWSian theory is replacing watching, reading and thinking with counting matches.

Taylor was more a proto-Wagner, who was taller than Southee and who could bat. That's so much more versatile than an along the wicket bowler who Lathams his stats a bit.
