Chandrasekhar
Mankad opening
Pujara

I think this team should switch Pujara and VVS/Hazare' batting positions though? The batting depth is very light below dhoni too which doesn't look great.

If Pujara makes it, I was thinking of Pujara, Hazare, Vishy and VVS from 3 to 6. Would change if majority wants to.
Makes sense.

Also, the second team looks so bad on paper compared to the first team. Not sure if any other country XI will have such a drop in quality from first to second.

Mankad to open and Pujara for me also.

Much as I rate Chandra, I think with Mankad in the top 6, two full-time spinners is plenty. I think you need a number 8 who can bat, so Amar SIngh is my pick at 8 and my back-up would be Lala Amarnath...

I agree with your assessment. Will change my pick from Chandra to Amar Singh too.

More broadly (ie have noticed this in both previous all time votes), the question seems to be picking a team that fits best into accepted norms, vs rewarding the best players with best careers so long as there is an acceptable balance for the team.

For mine, 3 spinners is certainly acceptable for India.

But most importantly, it's a vote so everyone should vote what they want. The majority will win, but it doesn't have to be consensus.

As an Indian fan, I feel someone like Kapil is far tougher to replace than someone like Jadeja/Pant in the all time xi because we simply don't produce fast bowling all rounders. The only decent ones we have had since Kapil are probably Irfan and Pandya, who are tiers below him. For jadeja, you might get an Axar type player in the future who might surpass him or for Pant, someone from the IPL chain who has a decent keeper has a chance maybe.
I'm not talking about the Indian pipeline but in general.

What we produced and what we are going to produce are different things simply because India is becoming richer and by extension, the infrastructure is becoming better.

Remember we didn't have anyone like Ashwin/Jadeja before Ashwin/Jadeja either.

Jadeja thing is he is not only a decent bat but also an insane bowler in Asia/WI etc. Has also done well in SA/Aus. Axar's batting is good but bowling not on same level. Kuldeep is a better bowler (and can be India's greatest pure spinner) but batting is not as good.

Pant thing is he if continues his trajectory he might become a tier-1 player and start challenging Gilchrist for the WK spot in all time XI. Gilchrist debuted at 28. Pant is 26 and already has 100s in Eng, SA and Aus.

I think in the next 20 years the 2nd XI will also look real good as some from the first go to the second and the first becomes the best first XI amongst all the countries.
