All Time Australian XI game

On a side note, didn't Hayden have a similar 60 odd average, like Smith at around 50 tests?

Either ways,

Spin bowler

Bill O'Riley

No.5

Steve Waugh

Maintaining a 60+ (or close enough) average over a large number of Tests has been achieved before by Hayden and Ponting (Gilchrist also had 55+ after 68 Tests before Ashes 2005), but Smith's achievement is far more impressive because he's not been part of a dominant side or an ATG batting lineup.

Smith’s current Test average of 63.55 after 60 Tests is the highest of any player in history at the same stage of his career, ahead of Sir Garry Sobers' mark of 61.96. fwiw

Yeah I voted for him in the first XI. The first XI has 4 right arm quicks and Davidson fits better. But alas, the majority voted for the less good option. We should be used to that after 2016.
Calling Lindwall "the less good option" is ridiculous. The only argument you can really make that says Davidson is "better" is that he offers left arm variety, which is fine.

Lindwall was acknowledged as the greatest fast bowler ever at the end of his career.

And, fwiw:

While still playing for New South Wales, he once saw the young Alan Davidson bowl a bouncer at an opposing No. 8. You've just insulted all fast bowlers, Lindwall told him. You've admitted No. 8 can bat better than you can bowl. Get into the nets and learn how to bowl. And he took him there, and taught him.

I defy any other team to bother taking the field against that all time Aus XI.
Think this is the only one that might take it up to them:

B.Richards
G.Smith
J.Kallis
G.Pollock
D.Nourse
AB DeVilliers +
A.Faulkner
M.Procter
H.Tayfield
D.Steyn
A.Donald

12th- S.Pollock

Australia A XI
1 A Morris
2 B Simpson
3 R Ponting
4 N Harvey
5 S Waugh
6
7 I Healy
8 A Davidson
9 B O'Reilly
10
11 F Spofforth

Again its hard to know the best batting spots for Bill and Fred.

1 Pick the remaining 2 players to fill the Australian A team the best.

2 Name your Australia B wicket keeper.

3 Select 1 opening batsman for the Australia B team

Happy New Year all.

Steve Smith (think he deserves to be in the A team even if it's at 6, rather than in the B team up the order), and Jason Gillespie

2. Name your Australia B wicket keeper.

Bert Oldfield

Personally I would bat Smith anywhere in top 5 and Waugh at 6.
And since we have 3 great spinners I would have had 2 in the first team where Miller was the 3rd quick and then Lindwall would fill the remaining spot in Aus A. But those ships have sailed so taking into account both talent and team balance I pick as above. Also, i am happy with Simpson and Waugh as 5th & 6th bowling options.

Aus B
