This is fascinating. Had never noticed Rice took fewer than 2 wickets a gameNo as when he was that bowler South Africa was in Isolation that was most of the 70s , and honestly he was a even better bowler in that period if you consider that for the next 2/3rd of his career he wasn't that bowler anymore . Most of his career he was a 4 or 5th bowler . Also when he could play for SA he was actually very lucky to get a bowl as a 5th option ., we had better at the time but he was still a quality bat . His style as batsman also changed from a hard hitting attacking lower order bat to later a stroke making middle order batsman so tale of two halves , ill rather have the young Rice however most of the world saw the older Rice . .
Barlow's WPM > Rice's WPMThis is fascinating. Had never noticed Rice took fewer than 2 wickets a game
Apologies was in a slight rush so was going off the previous messages, for some reason presumed L&L was quote replying to KK and not youIt's me not king Kallis. Will pick shortly.
Barlow was very much a batting all-rounder until about 1970 which just so happens to be about when SA were excluded. He became, or should I say matured, as a seam and swing bowler for the first two thirds to three quarters of the seventies and was a serious bowler then. He was still a good batsman too but his Test bowling record is nerfed by him not being at his bowling peak during the period he could actually play Tests. Absolute legend of a human too, his incapacitation and death came far too soon.Barlow's WPM > Rice's WPM
Bowled very well for the ROW v England in 1970 which was played instead of the cancelled Eng v SA test series. At the time the matches had test status but it was removed.Barlow was very much a batting all-rounder until about 1970 which just so happens to be about when SA were excluded.
