Hmmm, interesting. So despite 40/22 and 36/19 being their raw averages, Procter was an elite bowler and Rice was not an elite batter and that's why Procter gets the nod?

I guess Rice is more of a Keith Miller style all rounder. And a lot of people do consider Imran and Keith equal, the difference in batting covering the difference in bowling.

Also need to add that Rice bowling ability was always underestimated and he was a better bowler than the role he played also changes in ability through his career due to strain/injury etc .If you can have young Rice bowling and older Rice batting the he is better than Procter, similar to other batting all rounders South Africa has produced . Both top quality but Rice will be selected by most as a 5th or 6th bowling option imo

No as when he was that bowler South Africa was in Isolation that was most of the 70s , and honestly he was a even better bowler in that period if you consider that for the next 2/3rd of his career he wasn't that bowler anymore . Most of his career he was a 4 or 5th bowler . Also when he could play for SA he was actually very lucky to get a bowl as a 5th option ., we had better at the time but he was still a quality bat . His style as batsman also changed from a hard hitting attacking lower order bat to later a stroke making middle order batsman so tale of two halves , ill rather have the young Rice however most of the world saw the older Rice . .

I think I got the impression that Clive Rice was much closer to Botham, while Procter was to Imran.
