ACC Asia Cup Qualifiers 2018 - Malaysia

And UAE have done it! Victory by 14 runs, booking themselves a spot in the final against Hong Kong to determine who gets the final spot in the Asia Cup. It's a tournament being hosted in their own backyard, so they'll be determined to win it, while HK are fueled by the desire to prove to the world that they belong here - in spite of the lack of funding, resources and talent.

What cruel luck for Oman - unbeaten all tournament, suffer their first loss by just 13 runs, and just like that they've been eliminated. As for HK, what a turnaround - a humiliating loss to Malaysia first up, and then a tough win against Singapore, followed by defeating UAE and Nepal convincingly, and bowling Oman out for 180 in the rained out fixture.

Great tournament this. The final is on Thursday. GA YAU HONG KONG!

UAE are definitely the best team playing in this tournament IMO so I think it'd be good for the Asia Cup for them to be the sixth team in it.

In saying that, go Hong Kong anyway. We can deal with the massive defeats they endure in the Asia Cup later.

tbf we did beat Afghanistan in the WCQs, so we could potentially maybe pull off one victory there.

But more than anything, we need that Asia Cup spot to prove to the Government and sponsors that we're worthy of their investment. HK cricket isn't exactly flush with cash atm - losing ODI status was a big blow for us. Jakarta not wanting Cricket in the Asian Games hurt us even more. This could be something redeeming - playing on a widely broadcast series could go a long long way for us.

Nepal, who managed to secure ODI status at the WCQs, finished 4th. Goes to show how pointless it is to put something of such value on the result of a single tournament between closely matched sides.

ACC Asia Cup Qualifier 2018

Team's taking part:

Malaysia
Hong Kong
Nepal
Oman
UAE
Singapore

The winner will proceed to the 2018 Asia Cup, scheduled to take part in UAE in September this year, featuring India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan

First game gets underway on 29th August. The Hong Kong team is already in Malaysia preparing. Decent squad selected, the biggest challenges obviously being Nepal and UAE, although Oman's T20 form has been solid so they may spring an upset or two.
Hong Kong reached in the finals.

Final underway soon. HK won the toss, chose to field. I'm not sure why given the nerve wracking run-chase against Nepal to get here :/

Really excited for this. Anyone know if there are any highlights packages of matches played so far on youtube anywhere?

Great to see a Pakistani and an Indian officiating in this game...with the expats playing.

Feels like a local club game in San Francisco

Ehsan Khan to Chirag Suri, no run, full and on Suri's pads, whipped straight to mid-wicket where the fielder drops a dolly, moved to his right casually and let the ball slip out
oh no
