I am very happy to get a win 1st up with the Flower XI. When you consider that I almost left O. Rai Singh out of the side, I am very happy with his MOM performance. Thank you to The Argonaut for all your help while my membership has been down.

Flower XI produce first up win for new Manager

The Flower XI have recorded a fantastic 8 wicket win against Ranatunga's XI in a first up win for new manager, DJellett.
O. Rai Singh, who was almost left out of the side, won Man of the Match, taking 4/36 of 11 overs in the first innings.
"I found some swing with the ball, and it helped my bowling"
Rai Singh said, who is better known as a batsmen.
B. Dale bated well in the first innings, missing out on an Academy century by just 1 run. Regular performer P. Marsden also contributed 49 in his only dig. In the second innings, A. Adams took 4 wickets, leaving The Flower XI's top order batsmen to polish of the winnig runs, with opener Beerala scoring 68. Fittingly, MOM O. Rai Singh hit the winning runs.
New manager DJellett was very impressed with his new side, singling out Rai Singh and Marsden as players for the future.
Marsden, who looks like going up to the Major League in the draft, said that he would be dissapointed to leave the side.
Marsden has been announced as captain of the side for all future matches.

Great win by the boys. Good Batting from the top order but no-body went on to make a large score. But poor performance from Carlisle and not much of a tail wag at the end. Willoughby and Gul Mohammad bowling in the first innings was impressive as was Jones in the second. Overall a decent performance but economy and lower-order batting needs to improve before we claim top spot. Now to prove ourselves in the one-day game...

go Malcolm! As in Malcolm Jones. He's in top form at the moment, and I can only hope he'll be Warwickshire's answer to R Stratton of South Australia. Give him a season or too, and he'll be hot property fo sho.

Border XI

What a fantastic first game under their new manager. The guys trained hard and put in 110% to give a lasting first impression to their newly appointed manager, Dave. The battle was intense for a spot in the starting XI, which just proves how much depth this team has.

Game time came, and we were due to bat first. The openers got off to a steady start with the captain Hinds scoring a solid 39, and Underwood a 38. The middle order all got starts but Gratrix and the keper, Marwood, were the only ones to convert those starts into something respectable. Gratrix finished up with a magnificent 63 off 67 balls. Marwood fell just short of his 50, getting beaten by Durani on 42.

Enter Mongia. He showed domination from the start, and was well supported down the other end. He oozed with class as he continued past his 100 with ease. He also fell to Durani on 162. Fantastic innings. He was well supported by a wagging tail, with Roll and Cleary both getting 46 and 38 respectivly. This saw us All out for 515, superb batting effort.

The Gavaskar openers got off to a flying start, their first wicket stand of 174 was looking to be a huge threat. We were wrong, with Truscott and Roll carving through the middle order. Losing 7 wickets for a mere 60 runs. Gavaskar XI all out for 269. Truscott finished up with bowling figures of 4/74, Roll got 3/63 and Gratrix 3/33.

Gavaskar XI openers went in to make a effort at chipping away at our 1st innings total. However were devestated by some amazing bowling by Truscott and Mongia. They were bowled all out for 95 after 35 overs. Leaving them 155 runs short. Bowling figures were outstanding, Truscott - 6/40 and Mongia - 4/18.

Overall this couldnt of been a better win for a welcoming present to the new manager. Mongia is looking like a superstar of the future, and i can sense many of the main teams taking great interest in him. His suberb performance with the bat and ball earnt him the Man of the Match award.

Lets continue this form into the 1 dayers and we will be a force for Bradman XI to contend with in the future :)

Thanks to I:Indian, the previous manager of Border XI for all the great work with the young players. And for all the work he has done through the start of this season, we are real contenders to take this comp out. Thanks mate.

It was quite a surprise for Mongia to pull off such a fantasic match effort considering his stats really only rate him as a average player...

Mongias 4D record this season is: 79*, 0, 28 (batting at 11), 12 (bating at 11), and recently his magnificent innings of 162.

It is a very incosistant record, but it cant be sneezed at for a player that bats 8-11.

I am extremely happy with his efforts this season, inconsistant or not. If he can put in innings like the latest 162, and 79* every now and then its a great bonus to the batting lineup. however it doesnt worry me if he scores 10-30 as thats what any normal lower order batsman would score.

Thanks for the praise DJellett, a good win you had there yourself, cant wait for our teams to match up, should be a close game mate. :)

Regards
Dave
