I knew of the Hearne brothers but it looks like their paths never crossed.Seeing Ben Curran opening for Zimbabwe, it's obviously not going to happen, but if England picked Sam, you'd have 2 brothers playing Test Cricket against each other. I'm wondering if this had ever happened before?
I think Harry and Albert Trott came close. Harry played his last test just before Albert played his first for England.Seeing Ben Curran opening for Zimbabwe, it's obviously not going to happen, but if England picked Sam, you'd have 2 brothers playing Test Cricket against each other. Tom Richardson (10)Prabath Jayasuriya took 7 5W hauls and 2 4W hauls in his first 10 Test matches. Is there anyone with more fifers than him in first 10 matches?
Had a feeling I knew of one, it's not Tests, but Ed Joyce played against Dom Joyce in an ODI. Dom only played 3 ODI's, so it was quite cool that one was against Ed.I think Harry and Albert Trott came close. Harry played his last test just before Albert played his first for England.
3 of those Tests were against Ireland (2) and Afghanistan (1). Despite playing against minnows, his bowling average is in excess of 30. No so impressive.Prabath Jayasuriya took 7 5W hauls and 2 4W hauls in his first 10 Test matches. Is there anyone with more fifers than him in first 10 matches?
Destroyed Australia at Galle a few years ago. Was pretty impressive. Less so this time round3 of those Tests were against Ireland (2) and Afghanistan (1). Despite playing against minnows, his bowling average is in excess of 30. No so impressive.
I expect a few of the rest were on very helpful home wickets against hapless touring SENA batsmen. It's still an achievement though. Could probably say something similar about Philander except as a pacer/greentop merchant.3 of those Tests were against Ireland (2) and Afghanistan (1). Big Vern far from the worst company to keepI expect a few of the rest were on very helpful home wickets against hapless touring SENA batsmen. It's still an achievement though. Could probably say something similar about Philander except as a pacer/greentop merchant.
And trying to come up with the batsman equivalent for this was a little annoying since everything there is measured in innings instead.Prabath Jayasuriya took 7 5W hauls and 2 4W hauls in his first 10 Test matches. Is there anyone with more fifers than him in first 10 matches?
Did they all 6 batted the same no of innings in their first 10 matches? And trying to come up with the batsman equivalent for this was a little annoying since everything there is measured in innings instead.
But from what I can tell we have a 3 way tie for first with
Bradman
Headley
Harvey
all with 6 tons in their first 10 matches.
Bunch of people on 5 including Mendis.
Note that for Harvey he scored 6 tons in 9 matches to start his career, then 15 tons in his next 70 matches.
Notably all 3 of them actually achieved 6 tons in their 9th match.

Until Ww2 broke out, George had 10 tons in 19 tests. What might have been.....And trying to come up with the batsman equivalent for this was a little annoying since everything there is measured in innings instead.

Once again, there are threads you can post such stats, like stuff that don't deserve own thread. As these stats aren't awesome. In away conditions
Steve Smith is the don bradman of first innings.
He only needs 147 runs to become the leading run scores in the first innings.
Most likely he will cross Sachin in the WTC final.

Barrington wouldn't average 80+ if he played the same number of innings as Steve Smith.Forget about the Don, he's not even the Ken Barrington of first innings.
