AB de Villiers now the one and only "AB"

On that point, I think modern ODI guns are disadvantaged in general in a way because most of their matches are meaningless.

Sachin and Bevan played ATG ODI knocks in random tri-series or bilateral series which meant a lot back in the 90s and early 2000s. If you won those it was huge. People remember Bevan's match winning 4 vs. WI, people remember Sachin's Sharjah desert storm.

Unless you're scoring an all-time fast ODI ton, no one gives a **** what you did in some bilateral series or useless tri-series nowadays. You basically have to perform in the WC or you can **** off.
Bevan and Sachin and Gilchrist and Dhoni and Viv and Ponting etc etc etc delivered in both meaningless tournaments as well as producing atleast 1-2 crucnh knockout performances. Not unfair at all to expect the likes of Kohli, Amla and AB to do the same if theyre to be up there with them.

How have you missed Dan's joke that Bevan did nothing in WC finals of 99 and 2003 because he didn't get a chance to properly bat? He was being sarcastic.
I didn't... but you liking it annoyed me because the way you liked it made me feel you didn't think delivering in a knockout game was that important. And faf running him out isn't an excuse.

I was liking Dan's Bevan joke ffs.

You're inventing an argument and are debating no one here. You've let AB down by soiling this thread with your poop.

Go listen to some of AB de Villiers Christian rock music performances as repentance.

Criticism that Bevan did **** all in finals is like criticising Hussey for doing nothing in the 2007 WC, when he literally was pretty much not needed all tournament

How can you like luger ffs... Steiner at his peak was 10 times the wrestler and at his worst was way way worse than Luger and also the best and worst promo guy in history. He's all the good and bad of Luger X10. There's no reason to like luger when Steiner does everything either better or so bad it's laughable.

Struggle to take the knockout game argument seriously when AB has played two, one of which when he was 23 and the other where he got run out.

He also failed at the CT 2013, and he could have been the difference between a win and a loss in T20 semi final 2014 (I know its a different format). Missed out against Pak in 09 as well but he wasn't quite the batsmen then so eh.

Not saying he deserves to be rated any less because of this, because personally I' m not a big believer in this whole "need to perform in a big game" crap. But its not like AB hasn't had the opportunity to be the difference between sides in crunch games.

Fastest ODI 50, 100, and now 150 does it for me. AB has so much destructive talent that he should walk into any ATG team after Viv and Sachin.

De Villiers 162* off 66, WI 151 all out

........West Indies must be sick of AB de Villiers and South Africa by now. As if all those records broken in Johannesburg earlier this year were not enough, South Africa returned to embarrass them with another plethora, this time in a World Cup match. The most significant of those were 261 runs in the last 20 overs, a World Cup record and second only to the Johannesburg loot in all ODIs, de Villiers smashing the fastest 150 in ODIs, and the highest team total on Australian soil, an astonishing 408 on what was - believe it or not - a slow somewhat two-paced pitch. West Indies couldn't even score as much as de Villiers did, registering the joint-worst defeat in World Cups to give Pakistan and Ireland a boost should the final equation come down to net run-rate.

De Villiers now has the fastest fifty, hundred and 150 in ODI cricket - all against West Indies - and the fastest double cannot be too far away. Some might say West Indies did themselves a favour by not employing a slip during the stabilising partnership of 127 in 23.4 overs between Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis. Had West Indies been more urgent and less content with the calm before the storm, they could have brought in the lower middle order early. Going by the carnage in the end, that might not have been that good a thing for West Indies.
