Thinking about it, this saga has just made me more smug in my behaviour towards Essendon supporters. I mean, Hird was never my favourite player. I didn't start supporting essendon because of him. James Hird isn't the Essendon Football Club to me. I was critical of the boys club atmosphere that took over the club post-Knights and remain bewildered it hasn't come under more stick during this saga. (From Hird to Ray Gunston, it seems like everyone who has been hired in the past 3-4 years at Essendon is either a past champion or someone with a clear relationship to someone already at the club. This surely played a huge part in the negligence that took place). I didn't think past legends were incapable of making mistakes and that the only way to success was through the legends. That this has come crashing down has just fed my ego. I treat Essendon supporters with even more contempt.
