Perfect night for Wellington and the attendance was only 22,500. Disappointing.

Mind you, the quality of product on offer was poor. I wonder if the playing surface was a significantly smaller area from standard as the game was incredibly congested. I saw only a single run during the whole game where a bounce was required. Some incredibly poor kicking from both sides too.

The best advert for the AFL was that the atmosphere was much, much better than any rugby matches we get here.

Supposedly the ground was the same size in length as the SCG, which is the smallest ground in the competition, and 17m thinner than it.

So yes, the congestion would likely have much to do with the ground dimensions. I only got to watch the last quarter and a bit, and it wasn't too bad to watch but probably because the Saints were coming back to make a decent game of it.
