The RL Commission already has plenty of business heads on it

You need somebody who has a feel for the game, and also has a good business head
Yep. People forget AD played top level football. And the next in line, Gillon McLachlan, is a VAFA stalwart.

Not only are they astute business people, they know the sport.

Yes

And the thing I like about Demetriou is that he can provide public leadership, public direction regarding on-field issues, because he knows the game

He can go to a press conference and answer questions about the MRP, and about the sliding rule - because he knows the game. He can hose issues down.

How can Dave Smith go to a press conference and provide any leadership or direction, or hose down the current obstruction rule which is currently engulfing rugby league

Yes, you need to know business, but you also need an in-depth understanding of the game, and a feel for what matters to fans and players

You keep relying on the GWS being **** and failing. See where that gets you :)
It's got absolutely nothing to do with them being **** on the field. It's about them being in a sport saturated market with plenty of exposure but zero affiliation to the game. It's about a greedy move cannibalizing a successful measured expansion team weakening the overall presence of the sport opening up opportunities for competitors. It's about a rejuvenated competitor tightening its grip on its historical base. 10 premierships wouldn't change that.

Anyway as we've said in the past, we will see.

Lets be honest, Demetriou really is the 21st century's Pierre de Coubertin. He's incredible. I won't hear a bad word about him.

In fact, no one will ever hear a bad word about him, funnily enough. He's Australia's second saint.

Yep the Swans have been a failure as well. They didnt experience any sort of boost when they made a grand final in 1996. But to be fair, they were successful from the get go.

There is plenty of **** spoken about AD. You need to read more newspapers.

Yeah but its a bit hard for a dumb **** NRL player to ever be a good businessman. So they're at a disadvantage there compared to the AFL.

In NSW all the former sportsman who are now in finance and corporate sector are union guys.

Hartlett is going to be so good if he ever gets a full pre-season and doesn't get injured.

Big if.
