in a stunning twist, the afl have changed this seasons draw and instead of north playing gws and gc twice, they are now playing adelaide and collingwood twice

gws and gc are said to be very upset at this news.

Breakfast radio blue: Maher v McGuire

BROADCASTER Andy Maher has fuelled a breakfast radio slanging match calling Eddie McGuire "a loser" for saying Mick Malthouse would consider a return to coaching -- possibly at Carlton.

Maher spoke out against the Collingwood Football Club president “sticking his nose” in rival club’s affairs on SEN this morning.

“(McGuire) is a loser. . . Eddie McGuire is a loser. Of course he is,” the avid Carlton supporter said.

“If Eddie McGuire thinks Mick Malthouse is such a great coach why did he sack him? Why did he get rid of him?

“Eddie should not have been sticking his nose where he did yesterday and he was way out of line.”

McGuire said on Triple M yesterday that if Malthouse wanted to coach again, a club like Carlton would have all the infrastructure and playing list to “at least make him lift his eye”.

McGuire hit back at Maher's comments this morning with sidekick, Geelong legend Sam Newman in tow.

“The boy (Andy Maher) couldn’t carry my bags so I’m not going to go that hard on him,” McGuire said when asked to respond.

“I tried to give an informed assessment of where I thought Mick Malthouse, if he was approached, what type of club he would go to. . . it’s as simple as that.”

McGuire today reiterated the Blues’ form slump was linked to the club’s mounting injury toll.

“Come on mate, Andy you’re a good bloke. . . I’m speaking to Usain Bolt later today after speaking to Asafa Powell today – poor old Andy will be taking phone calls from Con from Craigieburn for the rest of his life,” McGuire said.

“I’ve broken more stories than Andy Maher’s broken wind throughout his life.”
Boom! 5 bloody stars!

Wildcard finals? Thoughts?
I certainly wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

At least it retains the 22 home and away games and then, by virtue of the wildcard, tries to iron out the inequities of the fixture.

I don't favour ironing out the inequities of the fixture by reducing the length of the home and away season to 17 games. Yes, it would be "equal" but, for mine, 17 weeks (out of a 52 week year) is totally inadequate.
