Anderson doesn't really get smoked that often if things aren't happening for him, he just doesn't get poles. His economy stays quite tidy and he builds pressure for the other end.I think they're arguably the best choices if we're restricted to picking non-ATGs but a swing bowler and a loose leggie would be far from optimal for containing runs. Anderson would get milked and MacGill would be a pressure release valve.
Unfortunately he's the best version of himself and the lesser versions of himself are often at the other end contributing to England's slow death in these games. If he had a Dale Steyn, Ryan Harris or the like through his career to be friends with then England would have been ****ing scary.
