Not sure what Taylor has to do with the Waugh vs. Border question. Think most would agree, he was the best skipper of the 3.
It's as if Border gets credit for all his predecessors did as if it was inevitable that Aussie would be no.1. I think they couldnt be no.1 if Border didnt set the foundation, but it also had a lot to do with the captains who came afterwards.

Steve Waugh had greater literary output. Very hard to separate them in terms of batting or captaincy, but Border can point to turning the team around with Simpson. Border also seems to embody the quintessential Aussie battler.

Border has a more complete record than Waugh(who struggled in NZ and SL, and plied on some of the worst English attacks ever) , and did it up the order, and mastered batting from 3-6.
