Good partnership

SA in with a chance now if Rabada, Tahir and Shamsi go on a tear. Pitch has some life in it.

Does anyone know Duminy's selection is influenced by quota? I'm having a discussion with friends on his selection, and this came up as an arguement. Does it hold any truth, not regarding merit?

No merit. Particularly this WC, quota has been 'suspended'.

Whether true for entire career is a different discussion.....

I think he's considered Coloured, so his selection does help SA meet quota criteria. However I think he's getting in on merit given his record and accomplishments.

Some lovely shots by Rabada today. Decent score by SA given they were 135/6.

Duminy was a genuinely class ODI batsman for many years, he is in this XI on merit. Probably should be moved on though.

It's influenced by sentiment. He's been a part of the side for a long time, and there was probably a feeling that he should be given one last chance at a World Cup. He's got a decent record, so he's definitely been in the team on merit, but he's not the player he once was.

Think South Africa are at least 20 short of making India think, now if early wickets fall their run rate is low enough for them to take it easy until their eye sets in (so need a really insane performance with the ball). Decent recovery from 6/135 though.

Needles to say it. Got to be perfect with the new ball. Get Rohit, Shikhar, Virat early and try and work on Rahul, aging Dhoni, Jadhav and Pandya.

Decent is a more accurate description of his record than class. Averaging in the mid-30s for most years in the modern game isn't great unless you are striking at a run a ball.

Been a bit of a minnow basher too.

It disappoints so much how his career has gone because he could have been so much better than he has been.

Saffers have a sentiment quota too, kept Jonty in the side for years.

If this is what Morris could do for us every few games instead of 1 in 15 I'd be willing to entertain the thought of him in the side. Rabada showing some fight. He hasn't looked his best with the ball yet Hopefully this galvanizes him.

Probably 50 runs short though, but it's up to the bowlers now. India have three excellent one day bowlers(Bumrah is just excellent across formats) and a canny Bhuvi or Shami. Class attack.
