This is a nice change from the last time we played Pak in Dubai. And that old RCB Vs MI game where Virat and SKY went at it and then SKY did the whole "Main hoon na" (I am there, relax) to the dressing room. Nice to see Virat on the right side of both here.
He has had his downs but this was a brilliant innings in a tough chase when he is woefully out of form. Shows he is definitely the ODI GOAT for me. If he can produce this in the middle of his worst form.
Ultimately, as a few including me noted from the start, this pitch had a lot more runs in it than the one against BD. Pak were well short of a par score, India's bowling esp. Hardik, Axar and then later on, Kuldeep and Harshit was excellent. Jaddu and Shami chipped in with some good balls but were both clearly underpar today. Fielding was very good and then batting was on point with each batsman understanding their role in the chase and playing it to perfection. Rohit with the blast off start, Gill with the "keep up the tempo" while Virat settles in and then Virat and Shreyas basically iced the chase before it got comfortable enough for them to open up.
Tough one for Pak as they are clearly playing their 4 best bowlers but I feel its the opening batters and the #6 that are lacking and ended up costing them the game. I wonder if they can consider Faheem Ashraf for that guy who batted 6. And maybe see if they can get Imam and another guy to open, leaving them the MO engine room of Babar - Shakeel - Rizwan - Salman managing 3-6 with some hitters to follow like Khushdil and then the 4 bowlers.
EDIT - The other nice thing to see is that this seems to be closer to the 2023 Virat, at peace and playing the game for the game's sake than the rowdy "waiting to pick a fight over anything" version we saw in Australia late last year. When this guy is at peace, the runs will come IMO.
