5 cricketers of the century and a bit?

How do you think you can justify Terry Alderman as a better bowler???? I would like some reasons on that. It would make for interesting food for thought
Mainly because nobody ever owned a batsman like Alderman owned Gooch. Gooch, one of the best in the world, was reduced to a wreck, totally unable to play a shot against Alderman. A year later he scored 333 against India.

Alderman was not quick, not flashy, no reverse swing. He just destroyed batsmen, time and again.

By your logic Harbhajan is a better spinner than Shane Warne because Warne never owned as great a batsman as Ponting. Bhajji owns Ponting like no bowler ever has.

Bhajji is not a big turner, not flashy, not much variety. He just destroys batsmen, time and again.

actually, we both forgot how badly Warne owned Daryl Cullinan. Cullinan had to see a psychiatrist in the end....

I didn't forget Cullinan. It is just that Cullinan was nowhere near the class of a batsman as Ponting is (or maybe Ponting in current form was what Cullinan was like) and you specifically mentioned how great Gooch was and nobody could own such a batsman like Alderman did. Hence Bhajji owned one of the greatest batsmen of all time while Warne didn't own any such batsmen. Hence according to your logic Bhajji >Warne.

I guess this is regarding 20th century...

For greatest cricketers, I would go,

1. Bradman
2. Imran
3. Sobers
4. Viv
5. Hadlee

Noble One

International Vice-Captain
1. Bradman
2. Sobers
3. Hobbs
4. Muralitharan
5. Imran

If I was to reselect again in a weeks time it would be completely different. Nearly 10-20 names could fit positions 2 through 5.

hang on

State Vice-Captain
dhoni and gambhir? tendulkar ahead of bradman and sobers?

i would dearly love to sample a bit of the himalayan special that you must have access to.

Here is Waqar's peak as a bowler

Bowling records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

If you take Imran's peak before his stress fracture in 1983 then Imran's peak is absolutely phenomenal. Arguably better than Waqar's 4 year peak.

All-round records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

Bowling records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo
In 24 matches he averages almost 41 with the bat and takes 134 wickets at an average of 16.35. That is an exceptional peak.

Forget this Imran at his peak. In the last ten years of his playing career he averaged:

<20 with the ball
>50 with the bat

meaning that he was one of the best bowlers and amongst the batsmen in the world= TRUE ALLROUNDER. Imran's career stats would have been even better if he hadnt started his career prematurely and pushed early into the Pakistan team. A bit how VVS Laxman's average would easily be above 50, had he not had that stint at the start of his career as an opener.

I thought that was a counting mistake too first, but he probably meant bradman when he said greatest of the greats, so that makes it 7
