and here's another classic Stray Observation; today was the culmination of india's efforts throughout the series led by pujara to bat time. even cummins in those last couple of overs was looking fatigued, and you don't get that unless you've continuously and systematically put overs into him for a very long time.

the ashwin and vihari resistance on day five in sydney, for example, immediately preceding this test on the short turnaround, definitely would have factored in to the mileage in the legs of the aussie bowlers.

also a factor is the mental exhaustion. The sydney blockathon got them tired, frustrated and digging deep. Once they were put into that position again here today, and were running in to bowl dot ball after dot ball to Pujara for the umpteenth time this series, you could see the intensity and focus flag a bit. Pujara wore them down physically and mentally.

There was no need for Pujara to do anything other than what he did for the first session, as we found out. Laxman is basically tasting the fact that they won tbh.

I think only Rahane's innings was particularly... adventurous. Pant has a Test strike rate of 68 and had 35 off 80 balls.

Regardless of the form, you'd consider Starc and Lyon as good players. Yes they were pants here but should not discount years of work. Pucovski is a star if he over comes obvious issues with concussions

I don't see how he could gathered the ball and swung it down on the stumps in one action, and by then Pant would have grounded his bat.

that was not a chance at all

pant's bat was lightning quick to come back down behind the crease

even msd wouldn't havve been able to whip the bails off fast enough
