4th Test at the Gabba, Brisbane, 15 - 19 Jan 2021

Whatever it takes!!!
The 14 day room quarantine is mandatory for anyone flying in from outside of Australia and that is understandable. The problem with the Brisbane restrictions seem to be that they were only applied coz the teams played in Sydney, under very similar but (based on today's news) apparently slightly looser quarantine rules. So basically if CA did not insist on playing in Sydney, then both teams could have been on the same quarantine rules as they were in Melbourne which was much more palatable for everyone, I guess. The way I read the sequence of events is:

  • Sydney covid cases meant Queensland imposed tougher restrictions on folks coming in from Sydney.
  • CA could have avoided playing the 3rd test in Sydney and bypassed all of these restrictions
  • CA, for some reason, desperately wanted the 3rd test in Sydney and thought they could get some relaxations from the Queensland Govt.
  • CA convinced BCCI to play in Sydney with a hotel quarantine, which is more restrictive than the one in Melbourne, citing this will ensure Queensland Government will relax quarantine norms.
  • Queensland Government did not agree to relax beyond same hotel quarantine.
  • CA rented out entire hotel and told BCCI the rules will be same as in Sydney.
  • BCCI finally got it written from CA and agreed to the Brisbane test.
  • Team lands there and finds out the restrictions are tougher than at Sydney, which was not communicated to them.

Really not impressed by the behaviour of the QLD Govt throughout this entire affair.
Yeah, not like they're doing the Indians a favor here. It's the other way round if anything and they should be pulling out all stops to make it a palatable stay for the guests.

But they were desperate to keep the Gabba Test too weren't they? Would their cricket association be ok if the Test went to some other venue?
I think it's more that the Gabba Test was actually one of the keystone planks of the tour as early in the tour, QLD's involvement was critical to getting the tour off the ground in its early stages, and so there was always going to be a Brisbane Test as a thank-you for that.

Needless to say, Queensland Cricket would probably have a fit if the Test were moved. It's far too late for that now at any rate, they're already there.

Pointless to speculate, India 50 overs and t20 squad, not many of those lads not selected would have made a difference for the fourth test!

Would Dhawan and Pandey have added much?

Chahar doesn't seem much cop as a long format bowler either.

Speaking as a party member all Labor governments have been hyperventilating idiots in this saga. WA closing the borders for one mere case, Queensland going hardcore anti-border to win votes, now Victoria with their whole border **** (though the latter is somewhat more understandable given how Covid exploded last Winter there).

I mean Lyon and Starc looked really non-threatening basically all day. Flat pitch yes, but regardless, that's kind of a problem and certainly part of the "bowling"
Lyon had at least three dropped off him that I can recall. They created enough chances, they didn't take them
