4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester

I mean half of this trend has been Stuart Broad, who has practically perfected the technique to do it (to the detriment of his bowling to right handers). I think it might be partially that being left handed is now so common at test level that it is no longer an advantage against the stronger teams (though I suspect it still is against some bowlers and moreso against some teams). Look at guys like Lyon and Ashwin who are way better against lefties.
Rabada does it and Morkel was doing it against left-handers. And I`m sure I've seen some of the Indian bowlers doing it... not just a Broad thing. It something that many left handers are struggling against.

Hell, Harris and Siddle were doing it in 2013. It was definitely Morkel's signature style against LHers though.

And obviously Flintoff in 05.

What's the similarity with all those bowlers, which way are they inclined to move the ball off the pitch from around the wicket? Away. There's part of your answer. The other part is the crap defensive techniques that Spark etc. alluded to. Be much harder to get batsmen with decisive footwork who play properly forward and back rather than poking from the crease.

Wade trying to play spin is just ugh.

He just needs to try and hit every ball for 6 tbh

How does Smiths leaving strategy compare to conventional leaves? Smith does this hard swat over the line of the ball. With his bat angle, if the ball deviated and caught the bat it is likely going straight downwards at a cracking pace. Other guys just pull their bat backwards out of the line. But if the ball catches their edge, it will likely continue through as the typical easy edge. Is this a strategic tactic, or just a tic?

Since it's raining.

Smith average now up to 64.01
Smith average vs England 63.71
Smith (2485) overtakes Ponting (2476) in Ashes runs

Smith needs 8 runs to overtake Alister Cook and 11 runs to overtake Mark Taylor in Ashes runs

Overton is bowling in the first session. Clearly he is a moderate upgrade over Woakes in Root's mind.
