It's a Kiwi fan in-joke aimed to provoke the member Howsie who called out Kyle Mills as old and rubbish to wave the flag for Boult to be in the starting XI ahead of him.

He definitely won on the Boult call but we still enjoy poking fun at him with affectionate memories of Ol Man River (Mills)
Where does the Ol Man River reference actually come from? It's been a while but I've only just realised I don't have a clue, other than the fact that he's old. And there's a song called Ol' Man River. What's the connection?

The whole interview was just down right weird I thought and you could tell McCullum was a bit uncomfortable.
there's only so much you can ask when things are going so well

"so how's winning"

"good"

"were you satisfied with how you won"

"...yeah"

and then they start straining to ask "original" questions which just end up weird

I'm taking heart ahead of the Eden Park clash from our warm up win against SA at Hagley Oval. Steyn and Amla didn't play but Blackcaps got 331 with contributions from everyone. SA were shot out for 197 I think. Also SA didn't chase at all well art Eden Park chasing what 240 ? against Pakistan then getting shot out for 200 odd. If you get Amla and AB out cheaply then the rest struggle like they did against Pakistan.

I'm not totally sure. I searched back and I think it may have began with http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/world-cup-2015/65586-warm-ups-world-cup-8.html#post3403930 followed by http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/world-cup-2015/65586-warm-ups-world-cup-10.html#post3404074

Pretty amazing that Ross used up 20% of the deliveries, struck at less than 70 and we still managed nearly 400. On the one hand, it shows that hanging around with a low strike-rate is not always a game-killer, but I really hope he doesn't think it should be a blueprint for all his innings'.

This is my tribute post to Martin guptill's knock.
It was the finest odi knock by a kiwi ever. Occasionally in my batting career I have just started seeing it like a beach ball and I blasted everything. It has happened maybe a handful of times in 28 years of club cricket and usually the declaration has come two to three overs later. I have heard of some legendary fc knocks where guys just beasted the opposition but I never witnessed them first hand.
After guptill's 100 he stepped it up and somewhere along the way he entered God mode. He will never play another knock like that again I suspect even though he has a 189 to his credit.
At the 40 over mark the crowd clapped and chanted his name. And when he was on 199 I can't quite describe my emotions. I told myself we would still go nuts for him if he got out 1 short of heaven but I suspended my negative thoughts and just hoped.
The entire crowd rose to its feet as we waited for the delivery because we just wanted to support him. The canny Jason holder took forever setting the field and we wondered whether it would get to Martin. We clapped and chanted his name as the bowler ran in and Martin slammed the ball down the ground. I don't know if it was a two or a four as my view was blocked. We clapped and cheered his mighty effort and only sat down because the bowler wanted to bowl the next ball. We would have kept going for 5 minutes if we could.
In the end him scoring 235 instead of 150 was invaluable because the windies probably would have chased down 310-320 had
Gayle not felt the need to score 400.

If you are in Auckland get tickets off scalpers to see the semi and be a part of cricketing history one way or the other.

LOL well what a read this has been!!..i go away for five minutes and suddenly the kiwis have turned into Aus 2003 and WI are no better than an associate team?

Let me break down a few facts for my misguided friends

1. I think everyone is fully aware that we've entered into this competition with a very dark cloud hanging over our cricket...several players missing due to being punished (Bravo and Polly) , injured (Darren Bravo) or just lacking the right mindset and fitness to being considered (Narine, Powell and Rampaul). That's effectively half our best side right there.

2. We also don't have a real head-coach at this world cup so is it any wonder the players are slacking and play hot and cold?

3. I see a lot of arrogance from my NZ friends here and i guess that's to be expected having not tasted much success before but i'd like to remind everyone that in recent years where ODI's are concerned only one team between NZ and WI has ruled the roost...4-1 win for us at home and 2-2 draw in NZ when again we had a very depleted side there too!!..so in the last NINE ODI's the score is 6-3 in our favour. That goes out the window on Friday but from a mental point of view we really have nothing to fear.

4. As much as NZ have impressed with the ball their batting has serious question marks around it imo.The Aus game was a thriller but that was only because NZ allowed it to be with such poor, and nervous batting...if we get 250 they will feel the pressure i think.

5. Yes, we lost to Ireland by being totally slack and adopting the wrong tactics when we bowled..it can happen. To suggest that that victory somehow means they are "equal" or "better" than us is just complete and utter garbage...They've also beaten England and Pakistan in world cups...i don't think anyone was naive enough to think Ireland were really better than those sides and the same remains true in this instance. Nine times out of ten we'll deal with them comfortably and i think most knowledgeable cricket fans know that.

With our bogey team (SA) through to the semi-finals i'm not even all that bothered if we win tbh...it's probably better to exit now than to hand De Villiers another record breaking ton and that clown Tehir another 5fer!! 8-) .

The bottom line is all the pressure is all on NZ here and less pressure makes our guys very dangerous...i have a feeling we'll upset the apple-cart but if not then good luck to NZ moving forward.
393.
