Yeah the Afghans gotta pick a bowler to go after. Reckon Coulter-Nile is the right pace on this deck.

It's already pretty clear that dropping Hazlewood was a major mistake. I'd take him over even Coulter-Nile.
I think NCN is there because of the bat deep strategy that England and West Indies have used to good effect recently

This will be like the Scotland game in '99. They're just trying to save face, can't see them really putting up an imposing total
I was saying in a FB group chat before it started that they should have bowled first. Their best chance was to have Australia try to pile on 370, lose a couple of early wickets and then have the middle order exposed to Rashid.

If they're going to score <250 Australia will chase it down in a canter, but Australia trying to score 370 could see them score 200 instead, and Afghanistan could chase that.

Scotland didn't have Rashid and Nabi..

they have played enough cricket around to know the important of winning games. Been in the winning side and they have the habit of winning games. Its just foolish to take Afghanistan lightly.. I think pak did it in the warm up game.. and it wasn't a positive result for them.

Don't think Hazlewood had been bowling well in the recent past; he didn't deserve a place in the squad except on past reputation.

Deserves a spot ahead of Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff.

Also, I must have jinxed Afghanistan.

Ehh, he's barely played at ODI level recently. And even his current level > Kane Richardson/Behrendorff.

Australia might actually be more complete on spinning wickets with Lyon instead of NCN than on the quicker wickets. Neither Cummins nor Starc are overly pitch dependent.

The problem with these low scoring matches (which I normally enjoy) is that they're just due to bad batting. There's no swing, no seam movement, little pace off the surface, no irregular bounce or pace, and little spin, i.e. none of the things that help make such matches actually interesting.

Of course they could get 300 here if Zampa keeps bowling those.

So they are going to target Zampa in spite of the wicket. Good strategy. Attack Stoinis and 6th bowler too.
