guyana could hardly be considered underdogs against free state
Why not? We beat them comprehensively the last time the 2 sides met. I wouldn't go as far as saying Guyana were underdogs, but there was a bit of dosh each way.Slats4ever said:guyana could hardly be considered underdogs against free state
Since when has the paper side been the winner in VC4..*ahem* I mean WCC?Slats4ever said:on paper they are amazingly strong compared to Free State
We should be, we've only beaten them once (before the last round), we never beat them even when The Ginger was their manager.Slats4ever said:guyana could hardly be considered underdogs against free state
Slats4ever said:A dissapointing Yorkshire succumbed to a powerful Western Province outfit who leaped to the top of the Division 2 table on the weekend.
Yorkshire were blown out've the water in the first session on the first day as Nick Kumble ripped the top order apart and immediately set the tone for the match. With a wicket on the last ball before lunch Kumble had the home side in trouble as they limped to the pavillion at 4-71. The resistance was just as weak after lunch with Jim Schofield and Q Friend forcing the tail to collapse from 4-111 to be all out for 146 with Schofield picking up 3 and Friend 2 wickets. The fielding throughout was brilliant and the bowling mechanical as Yorkshire were all out for 146.
After a round of low scores from a lot of teams Province were keen to score a mammoth score, so they didn't have to bat again. Zac Birch started the innings positively as he smashed the first 3 balls of the innings for 4. Just as it looked like Province's powerful top order were finding some touch with the score at 0-124, three quick wickets fell and Yorkshire's ageing pace attack began showing some fight as the score was 3-125. This was as close as Yorkshire would get to Province for the rest of the match as the middle order rallied and pushed the score up over 200. Samaraweera and Jacobs then rubbed salt into the wound as the pair added 141 for the seventh wicket before Samaraweera was run out tragically for 94. Impressive bowling from Hamish Simpson wrapped Province up quickly but the damage had already been done as Province was 231 runs ahead.
Only a handful of spectators turned out on the 3rd day to see Yorkshire slump yet again with the bat. The top order looked nervous and only a small middle order revival from De Silva and Boxall saved Yorkshire from complete embaressment. It was the Tate show however that finished Yorkshire off as the young starlet took 6-63 to wrap up the inning victory for Province.
The win elevates Western Province to the top of the table, after Mumbai's upset win over Warwickshire. The side however have a tough stretch to finish the season as they come up against both Karnataka and Hampshire, sides hotly on their tails.
Slats4ever "A great game which once again proved that Western Province has the most depth out of any side in the competition. It wasn't our stars that won this game it was guys like Samaraweera, Schofield and Jacobs. We're peaking at the right time and I think we'll be good enough to take the title now".
