If you're hit on the back pad and off stump is visible as impact occurs, you're literally asking for death.

It's because there's a bit of uncertainty over where the actual point of impact is, for a bunch of reasons. Though I'm increasingly thinking that those should just be given as an "insufficient evidence" style not out, mostly because LBW is an inferior mode of dismissal that should be suppressed

In cases like this it’s effectively an umpires call which turns outside the line into inside the line. It’s like if a ball missing the stumps was changed to hitting

Touch fortunate for Australia, but with Bairstow's technique he was always going to be challenged by Boland having a tendency to bring the ball back in

Speaking of Boland I have been pleasantly surprised with how he has fared. He isn't really doing anything different to what he has been doing in Shield cricket for the last few seasons, but it is good to see it can trouble international batsman. At the very least he is handy depth to have going forward

Yeah, stump to stump line with a bit of movement either way is bloody difficult to play on this deck
