The Wheel is Forever
This really isn't a bad spot at all, 105/2 after 23 with Ashwin having bowled 7 overs. I'd have taken it at the start for sure.
You'd want to be at around 200-220 runs at the 40 over mark I would think in order to put an imposing total. If the spinners are bowled out all the way through, it'll be very hard for them to get there.

True in the context of this innings, not so when you look at the Irish bowling. How good is this Thompson guy?

Never seen him play.

If you account for the relative quality of the Irish attack and Indian batting, I'm not sure any score would be good enough. But to read this thread you would think we're 70/4 after 30 or something.

Is it though? He's the bowler that I would really worry about bowling us out for nothing, and he's only got 18 balls left, and our run-rate is still decent because Stirling came off up front. Sure, we might still collapse, but right now things are going to plan.
I only say that because I've seen Ashwin spray it all over the place when batsmen attack him early on, he's just one of those bowlers who's almost more likely to dismiss you if you sit on your crease letting him bowl where he wants using his subtle variations.

Furthermore - just sitting on Ashwin would be more excusable if they took to the part-time spinners, but they're sitting on them too.

Been impressed with Ashwin. He's clearly improved from a year ago and will be a bigger threat to NZ than when were were last easily able to milk him.

Of course, Williamson will actually use his feat etc but he looks much better than last year.

Yeah not understanding this. They're 2 down with a guy on 50+. They're doing fine. The assumption needs to be that they take advantage of wickets in hand an accelerate later.

Ireland aren't scoring 380 guys ffs. Stop using that as the base of what is a good score.

In isolation, 105/2 after 23 is quite a solid platform. I suppose it's because we all feel they need 320 minimum to really test this Indian batting line-up, but who knows, perhaps 280-290 could be enough.

320 and you'd say Ireland have a 1 in 3 chance.
290 and you'd say they're about 1 in 10 IMO.

Scoreboard pressure is definitely required. If India are allowed to bat how they want they'll score heaps.

I think it's more on the principle that they're allowing very average part time bowlers like Raini to rip through the overs for bugger-all. Perhaps that's just good captaincy from Dhoni knowing they'll just consolidate now regardless of who bowls.

AS I say that, they use their feet ! This is more like it !

This should be the last over for Rohit, plenty of bowling options now given the overs remaining.

Depends whether they want to win the match or not.

But honestly I think it's more a case of Ashwin and Raina bowling well and the Irish not being able to handle good spin than any lack of intent.
