Sure we'll see. I can't remember the last time an away side batted out a day this gloomy in England but I remember a loooot of sub-100 scores.
Not really. Great bowling conditions right now, better than yesterday. Aus could easily get fired out for sub-200 and it wouldn't change that England should have scored more yesterday.

I think you're straw manning there. No-one is saying he's bad (although it would be nice from an Australian perspective if he was just for this series), but if you listened to the media he's Curtley Ambrose reincarnated. And I mentioned Div 2 wickets because people are writing off Jhye Richardson already when he has a similar average in a distinctly harder competition.
Those people are complete fools regardless of the comparative merits.

Jofra looks a bit "whippy" this morning. Has there every been any raised eyebrows at his action or am I just seeing something that's not there?

Bancroft looks absolutely terrible. Worse than Rory Burns. That windshield wiper defence is hard to watch

I think that's mostly an artifact of the light, or the lack thereof. Makes fast motion look a bit weird.

Haven't seen much movement too far.

I never said otherwise. Paine's decision to bowl put Australia up against it right from the start.

Does Root just really not rate Woakes? I thought he'd be opening the bowling given he averages like 7 here. Didn't bowl him at all with the game in the balance at Edgbaston either.

Now this is a proper TJB post. I don't think you're entirely wrong at least perception wise, but I've got my own pet theory that certain bowlers will bowl with a 'relaxed' elbow without really straightening it during delivery. Tim Southee is an example. Also another pet theory where certain actions where the elbow/arm rotates around later than normal will look suspect as well, something I think is emphasised in Archer's action which is super upright and has very little body swing.

Yeah it's one of the dumber decisions in modern time given that Australia would've known that the weather was bad today and to a lesser extent tomorrow. Better to try and get a big score in one day and blast them out twice under cloudy skies (given they have Pattinson and Starc on the sidelines as well) rather than blast them out in 40-50 overs.

Root is just extremely rigid; Broad and Archer are the Opening Bowlers so he's gonna go with those regardless of local tactical considerations

Well considering how Root did things on day four of the last test...

Must say I'm a bit surprised that Archer has automatically been given the new ball.

Edit: I think Spark's right, casting my mind back to the last Ashes where Broad was always given the new ball despite invariably bowling utter trash.

Hey Rooty, how about bowling the bloke who averages 9 on this ground. Maybe do it while the ball is still new and before they go off for bad light or rain. How about dispensing with the leg slip too?
