i think he's actually more suited to #5 than #6. this is an old saw i haven't taken up since mike hussey was a thing, but i think #6 genuinely works best if you have a different skillset than #5 which is more "typical" middle order slot.

i think you need a bit more flexibility and responsiveness in terms of changing the tempo of your innings at #6. green is technically very sound but changing up and down the gears is something he probably still needs to learn; the patient accumulation seems to be a feature of his batting in general rather than just this innings. that is absolutely fine at #5 but #6 often needs to counterattack a bit more.

mussey (at home) was the absolute prototype on how to do this.

You’re right re the direction of any turn, only it went straight on as per usual
