Why the **** is Malan so good in Australia but so **** everywhere else?

Well two Tests in NZ aside the only other place he's played Tests in England, which is
1. Quite a hard place to bat in general.
2. Not a good place for a top order batsman to play away from his body as he likes to do.

Australia on other hand: muh roads.

Lyon's definitely going to trouble Malan more than the other bowlers - will be interesting to see if Root goes really hard here to try and hit him out of the attack and protect Malan from the threat a bit.

Yeah Root going downtown early is very interesting. Isn't massively his method against spin but not a bad option here

At least he is likeable though. Waugh and Warne are absolute audio terrorists

Yeah I reckon it has more to do with Malan than Root's ideal plan for his own innings. Good partnership batting.

Yeah he is Warnish. Obnoxious, loud but does offer insight

See I'm the opposite. I think Waugh can say something of interest from time but he's sounds like he's sucking a lemon permanently. Warne is just painful.

And yeah, KP was really, really bad on 9.

I actually find him a bit of a guilty pleasure. I've always enjoyed that he doesn't mince his words when he thinks someone is shithouse - it's a breath of fresh air from the corporatespeak you get from the other comms.

Hard to take him very seriously as an analyst though, and other commentators that could probably be described that way to various degrees (Botham, Warne) I actually find absolutely insufferable, so I'm not entirely sure why I find it different with Waugh.
