There are other factors. If you have another power hitter, then it's perfectly fine. But, not if you don't. He gets out early, as is more likely than not, and you are leaving behind too many runs on the table.

I said the same thing when he succeeded against Australia as well, because it's correct. If DK/Pant is in the XI, it's fine.
What's bad is holding back a power hitter too long, the in batsmen scratch around, struggle to go big but avoid getting out til the 47th, then you've wasted your chance with Hardik/Maxwell whoever. Why not let them have a 30 ball knock before the 40th over. Used to be pretty normal right, used the term pinch hitter

Think it was alright till 2011 odd maybe, but nowadays you can't afford to leave runs on the table.

India is probably gonna win this. But, as others have mentioned, this is going to cost them against England, and sending Hardik in at the 39 over mark isn't an optimal strategy. It's optimistic, but not optimal.

So everyone is in agreement that Shankar is useless everywhere regardless of when Hardik comes to bat.
I remember thinking when he debuted not too long ago he must have been a biffer in the style of Pandya. Is he meant to be a proper bat? Budget Stokes lol
