Made it a goal to go to every basin game I possibly can this year. Fun game to watch live but wouldn't mind seeing Wellington win something, think that's 5 losses on the trot which I've been to.
The pitch was a fresh strip way over to the east of the block with a gentle westerly which Auckland exploited ruthlessly. They also got a hefty dose of luck, with 2 or 3 skied balls landing between fielders and a few sixes which barely cleared the fielder on the rope. Based on how the rest of the innings played out, I reckon you play out this innings 100 times 95 of them Auckland only get 180. Not sure if it's always been this way but this is the first year I've paid close attention to the scoring patterns in the smash and almost everyone has been doing crap in the last 10 overs, even after flying starts. Not sure if it's the pitches or a bit of a dearth of hitting talent.
I know domestic batting lineups are always going to be heavily dependent on 1-2 guns, but the birbs are sorely lacking in guys in the middle-lower order who don't average a ton but can whack 20 off 10 once in every few games. It's a biggie from Robinson or Bracewell or bust. Abbas is probably a couple of years away from consistency as the talent is clearly there but the decision making is still questionable, he almost got out taking on the long side of the ground twice today.
