Eh they were never going to pick him anyway IMOBancroft forgetting how to bat at the finish line after three years of grinding to get himself here is objectively funny and sad at the same time.
You reckon?Eh they were never going to pick him anyway IMO
He’s genuinely a forgotten manNeser injured in the A game. Jhye got through 25 overs in a second XI game though.
Nah he's not ready. Just give mcsweeney a shot and let konstas go back to the shield with an 80* in the bank. If things go decently he can replace khawaja in ~12 months time.If Australia need a new opener they may as well as gamble on Konstas imo. You know what you'll get with Bancroft and Harris - they're not test level batters.
That's fair enough. I'd be amazed if Harris and Bancroft suddenly averaged 40 at test level, so bringing a new name in makes more sense. McSweeney probably is in the box seat now.Nah he's not ready. Just give mcsweeney a shot and let konstas go back to the shield with an 80* in the bank. If things go decently he can replace khawaja in ~12 months time.
It's either Harris, McSweeney out of position or Konstas. The last mentioned has just played some hard cricket against test class and in form bowlers like Mukesh and Prasidh. He didn't kick it down but generally came through ok. Given what he's been through and what he's up against I think he's just as good an option.Nah he's not ready. Just give mcsweeney a shot and let konstas go back to the shield with an 80* in the bank. If things go decently he can replace khawaja in ~12 months time.
They rate him as a future option after he proves himself more and they saw it as a great way to get some experience against a good attack. Khawaja is probably going to retire in a season or two so getting him that was good future planning - doesn't mean he was actually in immediate contention. Why do you think he was picked for the A games if they weren't considering him?
Not many get in after 6 fc games. Think of the situation - the failed 3 on a loop again? Come off it. They wanted an option because of the straights they were in. He can get plenty of proving time in the shield. But if you’re picked for the A team before a big series you’re being considered. I’m not sure about the relevance of selectors making dumb decisions. The point is they made it. And when you consider the alternatives this one is entirely reasonable. They rate him as a future option after he proves himself more and they saw it as a great way to get some experience against a good attack. Khawaja is probably going to retire in a season or two so getting him that was good future planning - doesn't mean he was actually in immediate contention.
And even if he was it doesn't mean it was a good idea. Selectors make dumb mistakes all the time.
So do pre-selectors….They rate him as a future option after he proves himself more and they saw it as a great way to get some experience against a good attack. Khawaja is probably going to retire in a season or two so getting him that was good future planning - doesn't mean he was actually in immediate contention.
