For reference, took a random image from the start of the day's play in 2022-23 vs now for bancroft

View attachment 42246His back foot is way further across in the more recent example and further across than his front foot, and even his front foot looks an extra half a stump across. This is pure conjecture, but I feel like this may be why he's been getting out pretty much the exact same way for single figures so much this season. He's further across and coming down the crease and ends up pushing at balls he would normally just be able to leave.
Why would he be doing it though? He had an awesome season last time out - was he doing it then?

Aussie Test opener watch, FC runs this season (all have had 6 innings)

McSweeney - 418 runs @ 104.50 (SR 44.19)
Konstas - 318 runs @ 53.00 (52.22)
Harris - 290 runs @ 48.33 (62.36)
Bancroft - 26 runs @ 4.33 (27.66)

McSweeney now the leading run scorer in FC this season (until Carey has another bat). I see him as a lock for the Test squad, just not sure whether that's as manufactured opener or squad spare bat.

There seem a whole load of absentees in the current round of SS matches, surely they cant all be called up in the oz squad vs Pakistan?

Don't you know there are 17 players called up to the Australia A squad to go with the 14 players in the ODI squad

Manenti's performance inspiring CA's headline writer to new levels of alliteration.

Has he been nominated to open the batting by any of our esteemed media yet?

KPat having a good game for NSW, so that's him done for the season now.
Only got a game thanks to all the call ups. May have just revived his career in all seriousness. Probably will revert to his old standards though

I didn't even know until about an hour ago that Pakistan were even in Australia.
I don't read newspapers or much on line, didn't know that there was another POINTLESS, UNNECESSARY 50 over series happening.

But good to see Jake Doran in fine form.
Needs to be as Tas are 6-89 at tea, with 42 overs left to draw against WA.
Doran, 12no (140)

Said it before, Pope is better than Swepson because at least he can bowl a ball that gets people out (in amongst all the ****)

GAS and Redbacks gonna be like overturned ice cream vans tonight.
Felt a little ropey this morning, that's for sure

Seriously though, this has to be one of the most impressive wins this team has had, and not just because it was against those Victorian ***** (although that does help admittedly). Most pleasing thing of all is just how much of a team effort it was, almost everyone stood up at some point during the game. Hunt backing up his big ton last game with a well made 62 in the first dig was encouraging signs for his form getting back to where it was a few seasons back (globe in the second innings aside), where as J00f was the other way around, failed first up but his second innings runs were vital to keeping the momentum up. Similar can be said of Scott in the first innings, he also bowled handily throughout even if arguably a little underused in the first innings. Manenti had an excellent all round game, the lower order hitting was very enjoyable as usual but his bowling especially looked as good as it has in a while, took a couple of really sharp grabs at slip as well. Thornton finally making his FC dayboo absolutely looked the part, that second innings spell where he dismissed Chandrasinghe and Rogers seemed particularly rapid. Conway kept things under control, good wickets in the first innings especially and was economical throughout. But Pope was arguably the biggest positive, both for his wickets and for how he went about things more broadly. Far less reliant on the wrong'un than he has been in the past, while there was still the odd loose one his legbreak was about as consistent as I have ever seen it, got a few to really go a mile out of the rough, but just as impressive was the ball to get Harper, nothing really about the pitch on that one, just a textbook legspin dismissal

It wasn't absolutely perfect, plenty of unconverted starts across both innings is something that can be improved upon, but for the fact that the team were without some of their best and most reliable performers in McSweeney (who may not be playing that much more Shield cricket this season if he gets the Test opportunity, didn't foresee that at the start of the summer but if he does get the callup I would genuinely be thrilled for him) McAndrew and Buckingham (who himself may be out of commission for a while with a side issue) is something that I wouldn't have predicted but absolutely love seeing
