Khawaja on TGC brings up an interesting point that I'd suspected but never seen confirmed: they've actually fixed the Kookaburra by giving it a double lacquer and a much more prominent seam which stays prominent for much longer, which is contributing to the much more challenging batting conditions across the country in general.
AFAIK, 4/6 stitches are done by machine which makes them less prominent than a Duke

Anyway, biggest problem is that it goes soft much more quickly

I'm not sure, but is the Australia A v India A game a (FC) match with just 11 a-side, or 14-15 players fielding etc.?

It's a FC match with just 11. In case you dont know, there's an A series thread in the BGT sub-forum.

NSW vs Qld update.

NSW without Konstas, Smith, Philippe, Starc, Abbott and Lyon from last game. They must have known Davies was out of A game for a while now as he'll play for NSW. Hazlewood also to play and Jack Edwards back fit.

Qld are without Labuschagne, Neser and Steketee. It looks like Peirson will keep as not in 1st A game. Swepson will captain and Angus Lovell has finally made the squad after his double hundred in the 2nd XI game

This is a great thing for Tests.

But can they maybe produce some of the old style balls for Shield games, where the pitches are already ****ed?

All the more reason to ask why both the Shield and test pitches have been so grassy.

And no I don't buy that it's the primarily the weather. Look at two Brisbane tests. In 1974 vs England the pitch got absolutely soaked before the match yet eventually was a somewhat rough but hard, bouncy, surface with a modest amount of grass. In the 2022 vs SA there was far less rain and warmer temperatures in the lead up yet the pitch was damp with a thick layer of grass.

I think groundsmen have changed their preparation to one that relies a lot more on live grass and less on rolling to bind the surface together, like a club pitch. You don't see grass clippings rolled into the pitch as much either, this used to be a common way to create a harder surface. Though if you did a Les Burdett and and coated the pitch in them you'd get the terrible pitches that he produced at Adelaide for years.

Thornton in line for a FC dayboo today, hope he goes well. Him Conway and Scott as the allrounder isn't exactly the most reassuring pace attack I have ever seen in my life, would have liked to see another pacer in. From the squad released, I would expect both Manenti and Pope to play, which I'm not sure really is the right call honestly

As for the batting, yeah really not expecting too much there. Hopefully Hunt's ton from the other round is something he can build on, otherwise the entire lineup is pretty much Carey or bust

Isn’t it great news that in response to pace friendly pitches they now make the kooka swing more. Maybe they can just load one side of the ball next.

Good start by NSW losing one in the first over.

I see the Aus A absences are so biting they've had to dredge up Patterson. Yet somehow Nisbet isn't playing.

Thornton has been around for a while surprising he hasn't had a FC dayboo yet. Looking at the stress of his action though I could see why longer games might not be his forte

Davies goes for five. And once again, the Cricket Central pitch resembles Chester-le-Street in April.

Some curious absences, neither Meredith or Stanlke for Tassie and no Whitney for Queensland even though he took either wickets on debut.

Whitney has a bit of a foot issue I believe. Meredith is a more confusing one though, was in the squad but not playing which seems strange as he actually bowled well last game

Meredith is made of tissue paper unfortunately
Yeah well in a general sense that is true, but if he is indeed crocked again this time it must have happened pretty much in the last 24 hours or so considering he was in the wider squad named

Qld seems to be super careful with their new young quicks. Straker debuted in 1st game and they rested him in 2nd game for Whitney to debut, now Straker's turn again in 3rd game?

Good to see McClure back. I think he's got promise if he can put in the effort - I've heard bad things about his attitude.
