McSweeney is probably one or two innings away from booking a Test spot imo. In fact depending on how the chips fall, he already be at the top of the pile

I think he's already locked in the "spare batter" spot for the Test squad (replacing Renshaw)

If we get some bouncy pitches Webster could be the exact kind of bowler the Indians might struggle with. Haze + Cummins + Webster on a bouncy track could decimate the tourists

For all the auditioning Marnus has done to be the fill in bowler, you'd think Webster would be a strong contender given the form he's been in over the last few seasons. He might need a Mitch Marsh injury to get in though.

They might just give it to Inglis tbf.
Would be pretty dire. By far the most obvious vacancy is as an opener, and if they think so little of our openers that we need to manufacture one I'd much prefer the one that bats 3 rather than 6.

Really don't think his bowling would be very useful at Test level at all tbh.
It would take specific conditions. Typical old school Aussie roads, not really. But if we get some seamers like we've had over the last few seasons he could be very effective. Especially against subcontinental batsmen not used to the bounce

Yeah as good as a domestic player Webster has become I'm far from convinced he'd be that effective at Test level. I'd really want CA to put more pressure on Tasmania to push him up to #5....maybe even #4.

Saw the Vic squad for this next round against South Australia at KRO

Harris, Murphy, Boland and O'Neill out with the Aus A squad, Jono Merlo, Dylan Brasher (youngish left handed opener), Mitch Perry and Peter Siddle in

Will be interested to see how the batting order is structured, I have a feeling (based off him making a ton in a second XI game opening) that Merlo will get a chance up top, possibly seeing Chandrasinghe dropped and an all new opening combination. Ordinarily I would enjoy seeing the Vics put out such a patchy batting lineup, but with the aformentioned Aus A series I am somewhat nervous at just how the SA lineup will look in both batting and bowling

Khawaja on TGC brings up an interesting point that I'd suspected but never seen confirmed: they've actually fixed the Kookaburra by giving it a double lacquer and a much more prominent seam which stays prominent for much longer, which is contributing to the much more challenging batting conditions across the country in general.
