Commentator bigging up that save onto the bar just now - not convinced she changed the trajectory, but guess it counts.

Hope the Kiwis can hold on this last 10 mins (sorry Mags!)

It was almost the perfect penalty from Ria Percival.
Can't help but think that "almost" qualifier is doing more than its fair share of the heavy lifting in that sentence.

Well deserved mind, Norway created nothing and New Zealand defended well and even had a few other chances. It's like these players are cursed whenever they put on the Norway shirt.

I think that's NZ's first ever world cup win in the sport. Great to come in front of 40k home fans than anywhere else.

I don't think Norway need to worry, they should still make it through the group, but yeah, hard to think of them as in it to win it on recent results

Based on today I don't see how we create any chances against a Switzerland who know they are through with a 0-0.

Hope the Matilda's get up tonight. It will be interesting to see Mary Fowler in action.

Katrina Gorry used to work in the cafe at an English school I worked at back around 2014. She bought her Asian Women's Player of the Year into the classrooms when she won. I tried to one-up her with my photocopying license but to no avail.

Saw some of the Irish squad in Southbank last Friday too. No idea who they were, but they looked fit.

Australia off to a winning start too, although Ireland made them work for it.

Like in the Thailand match, USA-Vietnam is unlikely to end in single figures. American goalscorers again unlikely to read the room.

Norway-Philippines, Spain-Zambia and France/Brazil-Panama will also be in the realm of pisstakery. Quite a lot of the group stage still has ameteur teams in general.
I know the US has an unwritten rule about not racking up the score (sensible in NFL with the physicality) but I thought the fuss over the Thailand game was ridiculous. Besides, England put 20 past a side recently. I think it'd look worse if, in a one-sided match, the stronger team just passed the ball around.

Yeah I agree, but the problem people had with the Thailand game was the outlandish celebrations for every goal. I think there's worse things in the universe, but that doesn't mean everyone's obliged to forget embarrassing behaviour.
