2021/22 New Zealand First-Class Season Draft

Would giving the batting points at Uni Oval an "anti-prestige" 0.5x multiplier, and bowling points a "thanks for the toil" 1.5x multiplier, make this draft too gimmicky next season? I suppose so.

Uni Oval's not always a slow road is it? Sometimes a green seamer at least at the beginning?

The scoreline in this match makes me think of the ptich where Hamish Rutherford scored 170 vs England.

It doesn't get a high number of spring games scheduled, but I just had Nathan Smith in mind, suddenly looking like a 20-averager rather than a 40-averager. Also Duffy's very toiling, workmanlike 32 first-class average. Also a Nick Beard nightwatchman 188 vs. Ferguson.

If only someone had told Otago's batters for the last three seasons .

Though the idea of adjusting Duffy's average down is good fodder for my Duffy-is-NZ's-reserve-6th-best-seamer-if-we're-not-using-the-Duke campaign.

Just as well NZT's strength is predominantly in his openers, Latham and Kelly!

If he'd just forgiven Nathan Smith for moving to Wellington and grabbed him really early (instead of Doug Bracewell) he'd be in with a great shout this season.
My strategies for grabbing a bowler were a bit short sighted. I figured Williams would be a steal because he's been a solid wicket taker for a few seasons now. My list was something like:
Williams
Duffy
Smith
Bracewell

Probably should've been Smith, Duffy, Williams, about 5 other players, then Doug.

Doug Bracewell is still a very valuable pick - quantity of wickets over the season should be high even if the average isn't brilliant. Fit - he does have 335 FC wickets. And is bound to do some engine-rooming with the bat, perhaps moreso in the second half of the season.

Yeah he's off to a slow start, as is Carter in my line up. Hoping the next 4 rounds they turn it around.

That wooden spoon battle with Athlai is looking like ancient history now for Chewie. Everyone has a wtf season, much like my 2021/22 one.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Hey as long as no one suddenly becomes a coach, or quits cricket, or is injured all season, then I should be fine

Well when I look at the large amounts of red on other parts of the spreadsheet, it's only fair something went wrong in Team Chewie. Cooper, come on down.

Cooper's not active yet anyway, Vandem and I decided. No truly realistic game on the schedule for Conway to be unavailable for.

Chewie

International Vice-Captain
True

Also, I thought the penalty for a duck was higher but it's only -10. Maybe we should increase the penalty next year for top 7 batsmen (other than nightwatchmen)

Oof, the pain of writing off Joe Walker's pre-X-mas chances. Had I known this game was going to be played at Alexandra I might've shuffled him up.
