So you are saying That there could be a quota to have at least 4 white players In the team?

Look if everyone is there on merit then i can deal with that, if this is the best we have at that level i can deal with that.

Its just a realitely higher portion to what we are used to and goes against all the aasumptions we had on here a week ago about why transformation is happening so slowly in SA.

His post does seem to imply that, but you still can definitely consider inexperience in the conditions as a factor in their loss. The gap between two sides may shorten when conditions are unfamiliar to both imo.

It was never my intention to imply that we lost to Nambia due to conditions (and I don`t see anything in my post talking about Nambia, inference was made because we lost to Namibia previously)... we lost to Nambia because we played poorly. Why did we play poorly because we can't bat on slow pitches imo. My statement was regarding SA batsmen inability (SA batsmen even above u/19 level) to play on slow/turning wicket conditions even to the level of our SA 'A' side.

In the previous tournament Markram and Valli were excellent and that helped a lot. But if you are saying there are 7 of 11 players of colour on merit then i applaud the great work CSA is doing.

Namibia could be better at us at cricket at this level, but i think its still a valid question to ask whats up.

I personally think this is a weakish side when compared to previous years. I am unsure of the qutoa versus non-quote talent as I`m not familiar enough with the school boy cricket. However I can believe that there is enough talent (particularly from the 'coloured' community) for this to reflect a good mixture of current talent. Heck we won the last cup on the back of Rabada so I will not be blaming quota on this one.

Dont get me wrong, while guys like Rabada and Valli could easily help fulfill the quota, im not suggesting players like that are only selected for that sole purpose.

Rishabh Pant's present style of batting looks quite like Dinesh Mongia's. Pretty brutal innings today though - 78 off 24. Could be a future keeper for India. For Nepal, Prem Tamang looks like a good prospect. Can hold a bat down the order, and has some good flight.

Well, because there is precedent? CSA openly implements quota systems that require x number of the players to be of colour. This doesn't happen with white players.

It's not racist at all to wonder if players are in the team to fulfil a quota expectation when CSA is currently officially implementing quota systems within the franchise system. It's a question of whether the ideology behind quota systems is being transferred to the u19 set up or not.

Former coach Ray Jennings is saddened by the state of affairs at the SA Under-19 cricket team.

The SA Under-19s were bundled out of the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh at the weekend after a shock loss to minnows Namibia.

The South Africans also lost their first game against the hosts.

Jennings was the SA Under-19 coach when they won the Under-19 World Cup two years ago, but he was replaced as coach by Lawrence Mahatlane in April 2014.


“The formula used by the selectors to pick the team and the one used to pick the coach has clearly not worked,” Jennings told Netwerk24.

“It seems as though the team is not properly prepared for the tournament and there’s definitely a lack of motivation. The same mistakes are repeated and plans aren’t properly implemented.

“It’s very sad for me - after I gave everything for the Under-19 team for eight years - to see what’s now happened to the team. It’s also frustrating that I couldn’t add any value these last two years.”

Ironically, Jennings earlier this year worked with the Namibian Under-19 team at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

“I gave them advice on how they should approach a match like this one against South Africa. You could see that, apart from having a lot of heart, the guys didn’t have much to offer. Not in my wildest dreams could I have foreseen that South Africa would lose to Namibia.”

Since winning the World Cup under Jennings two years ago, the SA Under-19s have endured a torrid run, losing 18 of their official one-day matches.
