Broad pretty much always looks "off the boil" in the months before the Ashes. Then the Ashes rocks around and suddenly he looks beastly again. It happens pretty much every time.
good old Australia in World Cups syndrome

I'd be wary of picking Curran if he has to shoulder a heavy bowling workload. There's a distinct chance that he becomes complete fodder if the ball stops moving for a bit.

Yeah I'd feel fairly confident if all 3 of Stokes, Curran and Moeen were picked so as long as the pitch is recognisable from the outfield.

It's annoying as hell too.

Interestingly since 2010 Anderson and Broad's Ashes averages are fairly close (30.34 vs 29.41). If you exclude when Broad missed 2010 and Anderson took wickets in the wettest Australian summer in 37 years and you go since 2013 it's 31.98 vs 28.09. Hmm...

Actually, just remembered how catastrophically bad Broad was last series. That he was automatically given the new ball during that was dire.
If we're talking about just Ashes in England, which is what I'm thinking about here, then Broad's statistical record is decisively better.

Sam Curran in with a quick could work ...but trotting him out with our veteran fast medium mainstays is a recipe for trouble in my opinion .

Needless to say we need a massive effort from Broads in the first innings without Anderson. Potential for Ali to have more influence in the 2nd but can't afford for them to get 300+ I feel. Smith looking ominous as well

Problem is, all our backup options besides Curran are potential injury problems. Archer not 100% and Stone is just always a concern. Bring in Porter I say

How long does it take to face up to a ball? I'm convinced routines like Head just did have a major responsibility for slow over rates.

'The Birmingham End'. Is the place really that dull they can't find a more interesting name?

Also good to see Oliver Stone out there fielding in between making crackpot conspiracy theory movies.

This just occurred to me: parallels between Anderson and Harris in 2015, anyone? Gun bowler approaching the end of his career, questions surrounding injury, a belief that should he be fit that he'll be vital, and then...

Why are they showing Smith's WC stats as a form indicator. Is as relevant as his Sydney grade stats for Somerville last summer

I thought Pattinson was the new Harris.
