I'm a big believer of giving a guy at least a few chances after a recall. They give some players super long rope before dropping them so their replacements should get a decent crack. Though I guess with Bancroft he'd already been given a long run of doing nothing in his first ashes. But Starc in over Patto would suck
Surely Patto will play Lords as there is a break and miss the 3rd test as it back to back then play 4th again. If fit of course.

Paine is looking very comfortable. Crazy idea but with how much we're struggling with the opening slot I'd consider getting Paine to open with Warner and pick another middle-order bat (Kpat if he was in the squad). If he opening and keeping is an issue give Wade the gloves.

Come to think of it either Wade or Paine would probably be better openers than Bancroft seems to be rn

Part of me is scared there will be some knee jerk thought process involving repicking Starc due to that Woakes/Broad partnership, with him being the tail terminator and all.

By the time the Australian innings finishes (if it’s today) it’ll be too dark to start the England innings - if the forecast is correct. Not that it has been all day.

Before that Wade had played 3 reverse sweeps this innings that yielded 12 runs for Aus, yet hadn't hit any of them with the bat

Starc for Cummins will probably be discussed. 2nd innings could affect that but he looked a bit tired. Langer seems to think Bancrofts ban resets his chances, like Marsh treatment, but wasn’t impressing before he decided to be a grade A idiot.

let's be honest though, Starc should be there ahead of Siddle

We play a 3 day match before the second Test so youd think the 6 squad members not playing this test would play. So perhaps a good Harris knock or even one from Labuschagne or Marsh (lol) might see Bancroft dropped,

The issue is that in the tour game, Harris will have to bat out of position at 3 or 4.

Warner Bancroft Khawaja Harris Head Labuschagne Paine Marsh Neser Starc Hazlewood

I dislike the highest successful chases table. It doesn't show much useful information. I want to see highest 4th innings scores instead.

Well done. Thought the stage was definitely set for a hyped return to the test side resulting in a complete disaster for him. Proved me wrong
