I don't see why we need to make excuses for Smith's innings today. It was a completely normal Test match situation that a number 4 would face and he batted poorly in the circumstances. There isn't a lot more to it than that IMO.I just wonder if maybe we should promote Marnus to open with Warner and bring Smith in at 3 and Khawaja at 4. If Harris is playing Marnus is virtually opening anyway and one spot higher may help Smith realise his importance even when things are going well.
Having said that. No. Khawaja to open.
Root presumably ignored or pretended he didn't hear it.I can only guess Robinson yelled something at Hameed there to distract him
Scratch that, this is starting to make me rethink Somerville’s bowling efforts in India.starting to rethink Santner’s bowling efforts in Aus watching this.
It has been a pattern though. When Marnus does well Smith has not.I don't see why we need to make excuses for Smith's innings today. It was a completely normal Test match situation that a number 4 would face and he batted poorly in the circumstances. There isn't a lot more to it than that IMO.

This is a very Doug Walters-esque innings tbh. Slightly home spun technique but times the ball to death and scores really fast.Impressive counterattack from Head
Yeah but when we talk about Smith not being much good at downhill skiing we mean when he's come in at like 2/350 and he cbf building a proper innings; the match situation has more or less been set and what he does is irrelevant. Australia were like 20 in front when he came in and the bowling was still reasonable quality at a minimum, that rider doesn't apply at all.It has been a pattern though. When Marnus does well Smith has not.
Look for Smith running Marnus out in the second innings then.It has been a pattern though. When Marnus does well Smith has not.
1 1/2 **Imagine if England picked more than 2 1/2 bowlers
