1st Test at Brisbane, 8th-12th of December 2021

This segment with Copeland just confirmed exactly what I thought.

Absolutely pathetic, Wilson not doing his job. It's like the bad old days when they only replayed on wicket balls. Dire.
Disappointing but not surprising. Just a completely substandard effort

Mark Wood's gone off to change his boots, according to Joe Root.

Good idea. You can't be too careful with your footwear when you're bowling fast. From a medical and safety point of view, I think it's imperative that he continues to go off after every spell to change his boots. No doubt the England management will (correctly) ensure that he does.

Simon Taufel said "They are suppose to be checking every ball " and he would know.
I did wonder why we were seeing every single wicket ball checked yesterday as if those were being treated as special again...

Wouldn't be an Ashes series without some fantastically inept umpiring though. Been a staple that DRS has failed to remove.

And Ponting pointed out the obvious fact they're not.

When I saw that I had bad memories of tests a few years ago. The most disappointing thing was that I was completely unsurprised that the Stokes no ball happened as it did, because of what was going on yesterday.

Oh and obligatory "Who the **** is the third umpire??!!"
Joel Wilson, who I think was the guy who was on the first Test in 2019 too which was notable for some comically bad umpiring from his end. I think there were literally more wrong decisions made that first day than correct ones.

It's Paul Wilson.

Brayshaw clearly knows no cricket history. If you read the newspapers in the lead up to the 32/33 series you'll see plenty of writing about Australia being death to fast bowlers.

He's the fella who failed to give Stokes out when he was plumb at Headingley last tour?

Cheating Poms.

Edit: wait, Paul Wilson. Useless ****. Should be doing the right thing by his nation and calling these no balls ffs.
