I'm not sure if you've followed cricket for the past 2 years but there's this thing called two new balls and max 4 fielders outside the ring that makes it very difficult to bat for the first 15 overs and extremely easy to bat for the last 15.
ummm.....that goes down proportionally doesn't it?

But the run rate pressure will be far far lower in a 38 over chase.

Its only easy to bat in the final 15 overs if you set yourself up to be in a position to take advantage of those end overs. There's also something called scoreboard pressure of a home game WC semi final which statistics will not factor in.

Cricinfo reckons it will be 264 in 38 overs if the rain keeps up.
264 in 38 overs would be sweet. We would just assume we couldn't be bowled out in that amount of time and throw the willow at it.

7 an over will be quite difficult though. Where is Virat Kohli when you need him.

The ball is in the worst condition in the mid-overs. Better teams often get a bit of reverse swing late overs. Powerplays and fielding restrictions will both still stay with 38 overs. So yeah, like everybody saying, what you are saying doesn't make any sense.

5.26pm A minute later, the rain has got harder, says Firdose Moonda
5.25pm Still a drizzle around at the Eden Park. The annoying variety, says Andrew McGlashan
5.10pm Just a recap of the playing conditions. We begin losing overs only after an hour's play is lost. In case the match is not completed today, we have a reserve day tomorrow with play resuming from where it stops. If we have lost overs today, and then a further interruption pushes us into tomorrow, the match will continue to be a curtailed one. If over two days we don't get a result, New Zealand will go through by the virtue of having finished higher in the group stages

2 new balls at Eden Park on drop in wicket (i.e. no pitch block) means Faf's zipper is going to take some serious abuse before we see reverse.
