Karthik has barely batted in this tournament and to pick him in a WC Semi? Honestly this decision is looking really questionable especially leaving out Shammi. Even Jadhav could have been a better pick with his potentially jammy wickets against NZ that he always gets.

Interesting choice. While batting first seems to have worked for the most part in this tournament and NZ have had a tough time chasing of late, thought if overhead conditions are grey they could've played to their strengths and unleashed Boult and Henry on the Indian top order. Anyway, onus on the top order to ease the burden on KW and get some runs for a change.

I just feel our whole approach in this World Cup has been off.

Winning the toss and batting under grey skies smells of captaining by numbers.

I'm pretty down on all this. I hope they prove me wrong and are not bowled out for <220.

I thought we'd have a better chance bowling first, but I'd be bloody stoked to be proven wrong.

Bhuveshwar and Jadeja in the attack is interesting. Could go sideways very quickly.
If the conditions are cloudy Bhuvi might just enjoy himself. Jadeja is a good pick however, NZ have had their issues against him in the past and he definitely shores up an unreliable middle order.

It's a blunt comparison, but ODI averages opening:
Latham: 38.0
Nicholls: 22.6

ODI averages at number 5:
Latham 30.4
Nicholls: 55.0

Not quite sure how we ended up with Nicholls opening and Latham at 5.
Because Latham in that tour of India a year or so back showed himself to be brilliant at milking spin relatively risk-free in the middle overs, hence why they wanted to stick with him at 5. Who knew he'd go through such a rough period of form.
I am very surprised that Latham averages that high as an opener as he was rightly dropped from the position after looking poor there for a while. I prefer him in the middle order and he was fantastic in that series in India, though I didn't realise quite how weak his record had been in the last 18 months. If he's not performing at 5 I'd drop him rather than put him back up to opener.

Did think they might go back to Munro over Nicholls, as Nicholls seems to have caught the same disease as the rest of the batsmen (caught down leg once, got a first baller the other and head too scrambled to review). Not unhappy to see Nicholls retained here though.

Dinesh Karthik. Still hanging around in 2019 and playing World Cup semifinals. Debuted before Dhoni I think.

Well you see, they'd have prefered to bat first last match, so therefore should opt do that today...

Anyway, fire up NZ! World cup semi finals don't come along very often. With us batting first this could be very interesting or all over very quickly!
