Btw AUS Sandpaper Duo having their ban finished right before the world cup, so deserving and a great role model for the kids around the world, along with Saint Amir, rooting for both - PRICELESS
Pretty dumb post. The ban was already 1500% more severe than any in the past for the same transgression, being ignorant enough to imply that they were brought back early in any way is pretty embarrassing.

CW has been pretty dire the last 3 days with all the Pak whining and politics polluting so many threads. Hope we can talk about the game now :(

Looking forward to India winning the toss and batting so that Boult and Ferguson can destroy their top order and India get <250. I feels that's NZ best hope of making the final, but Guptil also needs to fire

They should have got life bans.
Which other players got a less severe ban for not only planning the ball tampering but forcing another player to do it. It was premeditated cheating and not spur of the moment.

No matter how great players they end their careers as they will be first remembered as cheats-that is their legacy. As bad as lance armstrong - more likely worse as we dont see scumbags like this in cricket often.

If you think that is the first time somebody has ever got a less senior team member to do their dirty work then you have rocks in your head.

Micheal Vaughan, just to name one

I'm pretty hyped for this game

Really could see it going several ways.On the one hand - if it's cloudy and there is rain about, India should bowl first and hope to rip apart NZ with the new ball before seeing off a DLS chase. Remember how gun Kohli is at chasing? We haven't really seen that side of him this WC yet. Plus if we do bowl NZ out cheaply and need around 4-5 RPO to win, MSD suddenly becomes useful again.

But this has been a WC for batting first, and India have done well defending scores too. If we bat first and Rohit comes off again, we're basically set to make the finals. No way this NZ side chases 300 or a 6-7 RPO DLS chase vs our bowling attack.

Speaking of the bowling attack - starting to think that we should go in with three seamers + Pandya + one of Kuldeep/Jadeja, Attack with the quick bowlers, use the spinner to hold things up. Chahal has taken wickets but gone for runs. Kuldeep probably a better bet to keep things quiet than Jaddu (and will nick a wicket or two in the process), but then Jadeja adds some much needed fire to the lower order.

Batting wise I think Pant is locked in at 4, and either we stick with Karthik at 6 or drop him for Jadhav. I don't want anything funky like Mayank opening, Lokesh 4, Pant 6 at this stage of the WC. No matter how tempting it sounds. We need some stability, and in pressure games, having more cake in the middle order is better than more icing.

Weather forecast looking a bit crap this afternoon, and worse tomorrow. Maybe a wash-out will finally settle AmirFan down.

Just read this on the BBC:

Weather forecast

by George Goodfellow, BBC Weather
Tuesday looks to be a predominantly cloudy day, although there should be some brighter spells at times.
There is a chance of rain at times throughout Tuesday. Most of the rain will be light and patchy, so there shouldn't be any long interruptions to play.
Temperatures are expected to reach 19-20C and there only will be a light westerly wind, so it should feel reasonably warm despite the cloud cover.

From an Indian perspective, I'd suggest going in with two spinners. NZ have typically always struggled against quality spin bowlers, of which Chahal and Kuldeep are.

NZ really need 3 wickets inside the first 10 overs of which 2 need to be Rohit and Kolhi, otherwise we're gone I think. Open the bowling with Boult and Ferguson and stack the slips.

Anyway, for NZ the blueprint for victory was laid down at Hamilton (and executed again at Lords) - win the toss, bowl first, make early breakthroughs and exploit India's fragile middle-order while the ball is still new. I don't want to say it's the only way of winning, but with the top 5 batting the way they are it's definitely the most likely. Oh and I swear to god, if Munro is back in the playing XI we'll see a repeat of the living room carnage that followed the Nigel Llong "It could be anything" howler during the 2015 day-night Adelaide test.

Man I hope Munro plays and Bhuvi nails him with that knuckle ball again. Can’t find highlights but it was brilliant.

They’ll probably think back to Munro’s t20 100 vs India and give him a go. All or nothing amirite!

(And then be totally predictable in every other thing they do during the game).

jfc if Steve Smith should have gotten a life ban for being captain of a team that ball tampered then what should Faf, Sachin, Atherton, England 00s team etc. gotten? Years of torture and a death sentence?

Nothing any of these guys did was any worse than what dozens of guys have been caught for over the past years, and probably hundreds who haven't been caught. Can't believe this still ahs to be explained over a year later ffs

The bowlers were in on it too for sure. Starc should have his bowling hand lopped off.
