For all the talk of Kaushal's inexperience, Mendis has played only 3 international games in Australia/New Zealand in his career (and didn't do very well in them).

Considering the number of ODI series Sri Lanka has played over here in the last 5-6 years, I think the selectors have well and truly marked Mendis' card as "not to be picked outside of friendly conditions". I'd argue rightfully so, because he's a spud. virya would disagree because he reckons Mendis would jam wickets in Australia anyway.
