Well done just keep bowling slow half volleys to Stoinis to trick everyone into thinking he's good

Its a odi world cup not a test series.
Smith is comfortably the best test batsman in the world.
But he is nowhere near the best odi batsman in the world, he is not even best batsman in the australian team!
Class transcends formats. He's not good in JAMODIS but in important games he delivers. His WC record will end up top tier at the end of his career

This Aus team is full of people I hate. I'd rather us lose than Stoinis and Carey make runs.
One thing about Stoinis is he brings back great WC memories with that strut he has like Viv Richards.

Despite not achieving anything.

yea, this is why i'll argue until i die of oxygen deprivation that quality second and third string bowlers win world cups. you can have all the world class new ball, death and spin bowlers you like, 458673 nuffy medium pacers does not equal one good bowler.

look at this filth letting the foot off the throat. kill them ffs.

there is no room for trash in odis anymore, unless it's bowled by kedar jadhav.

Honestly I think the Australian side could be much better if we changed the batting lineup:

Finch
Khawaja
Stoinis
Smith
Warner
Maxwell
Carey

Stoinis is a proper batsman, not a hitter. Warner is capable of hitting out more than any other batsman in the lineup sans Maxwell.

What role does Brathwaite play in this team? His bowling is poor, or at least no better than Holder's, his batting is not up to it and both Holder and Russell are already there as third and fourth bowlers, with Nurse as the spinner. It's like selecting a bits-and pieces player because they 'might' be useful.

It was like the umpire had to think about calling that one a wide.

Darren Sammy 2.0 minus captaincy

"sans" doesn't quite mean what you are trying to convey here. It doesn't mean "other than", it means "without", or "in the absence of".

Just fyi

He's the only real batsman playing in the match though..

Well let's see how well ignoring recent form plays out then.
you would have been screwing over one in form player. Finch is captain and scored runs, as did Usman, and Warner was the best Australia OD bat for the previous 4 years and showing absolutely no signs he wouldn't still be the Australian bat. it had to be warner and finch for me,, who were a perfectly fine partnership for a longer time than Finch/Usman anyway. given the cynical nature of batting (hi PEWS) i'm not sure there's much to watch play out over the next 4 or whatever games. I certainly won't change my mind that they made the right decision

Usman was screwed by them wasting games on Carey, Short, etc, opening which denied him time to build his case though

In fairness, Australia's backup bowlers in 2015 weren't exactly amazing (inexplicable Faulkner hax aside). Hell of a pace trio though.

Stoinis disappoints for the 48,674,855th time.

Why do we play at Trent Bridge? Only horrible things ever happen there.

Perhaps it was an English plot...
